For decades, we've helped shape the legal landscape surrounding technology, digital rights, and federal criminal defense.
Company History
Our story took a decisive turn when Tor Ekeland left Big Law after five years as a Wall Street corporate lawyer handling complex securities litigation. He was looking for a client, not planning to build a computer law practice.
That changed when he met a man facing prosecution under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Although Tor had never tried a case, he offered to take the trial for free.
One Computer Fraud Case Changed Our Course
The case drew widespread press attention and immersed Tor in the technical realities of online identity and the Onion Router, or Tor, a browser developed by the United States Navy to mask signal traffic and conceal a user’s IP address.
Afterward, people began calling us. Documentaries followed, along with coverage in Rolling Stone and media outlets around the world. The attention reflected the significance of the work, but it was never the objective.
Precedent-Setting Work at the Edge of Computer Law
We built our practice around consequential cases, particularly matters of first impression and complex computer disputes that demand tactical thinking. That focus has remained central as technology, digital assets, and the laws governing them have evolved.
Rather than follow familiar paths, we step into unsettled areas of law where the facts, technology, and stakes require bold, trial-ready judgment.
From Early Computer Cases to Today’s Digital Asset Disputes
Experience gained through these disputes now helps our clients address risk before it becomes a larger problem. We represent clients nationwide in state and federal courts, handle appeals across multiple U.S. Circuit Courts, and assist international clients.
That history shapes our approach to blockchain, cryptocurrency, cybercrime, and digital asset litigation. We still engage directly with the technology, confront difficult legal questions, and prepare every case with trial in mind.
Our precedent-setting work has built the judgment and technical command we bring to high-stakes digital disputes today.
